San Francisco 49ers reporter David Lombardi utilized social media to direct remarks at analyst Mina Kimes, focusing on quarterback Sam Darnold following a recent matchup. Lombardi called the turnovers “back-breaking,” and they were part of a larger problem.
The discussion follows a 17-14 overtime defeat for the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos, a game marked by two interceptions thrown by Darnold. Lombardi used X on Friday to turn Kimes’ own argument on the Seattle Seahawks. With one of those picks coming in overtime, he was intercepted twice. Broncos’ offense still under the microscope.
Darnold’s miscues included a crucial interception during overtime alongside two recovered fumbles by the Denver defense as Seattle failed to secure the victory.
This back-and-forth originated after a 49ers game where Brock Purdy completed 19 of 30 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
Following that performance, Lombardi commended Purdy amid an MVP-tier campaign, noting that San Francisco played without three primary receivers and with Mike Evans operating below full health.
Kimes responded by highlighting the opponent, pointing out that the Broncos were missing both starting cornerbacks, which prompted Lombardi to counter regarding the 49ers’ wide receiver absences.
While the subsequent social media post omitted Kimes’ name, the phrasing closely mirrored her initial critique regarding defensive matchups. But the wording echoed her original point, the post never named Kimes.
Meanwhile, the offensive output for the Denver Broncos drew scrutiny despite the team securing the victory on Thursday.
