Reigning Formula 1 champion Lando Norris is expanding his influence in motorsport by co-founding his own racing team, LN4 Fusion. The McLaren driver, who recently extended his contract with the team through 2030, announced the project on Wednesday ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. The new outfit is designed to support up-and-coming drivers as they navigate the junior racing tiers on their path toward Formula 1.
The team’s livery will feature the distinctive black and neon yellow-green design currently seen on Norris’ own helmet. LN4 Fusion is scheduled to begin competition in 2027 across several series, including Formula 3, Italian Formula 4, and the Formula Regional European Championship, with long-term ambitions to eventually enter Formula 2. While Norris has recruited experienced managers from junior series to oversee daily operations, the team confirmed that he will remain actively involved in defining its culture and identity.
Reflecting on the venture, Norris described it as a long-term commitment rather than a short-term project. He expressed a desire to stay deeply connected to the sport, stating, “I think the main part of this for me is I get to simply stay very involved in racing, and because this is a very long-term project, it’s not just a two-year, five-year, 10-year. Hopefully this is much longer.” He added that he wants to build a team he can support and feel part of, essentially creating a racing family.
Beyond the team itself, Norris is establishing the LN4 Legacy Programme to offer financial assistance to young drivers who might otherwise lack the resources to reach their full potential. He noted that this initiative is deeply personal, as he recognizes the importance of the support he received from his own family during his early career. Norris joins a lineage of F1 champions involved in team ownership; he follows in the footsteps of figures like three-time champion Jack Brabham, who won a title with his own team, and four-time champion Max Verstappen, who has participated in endurance racing with his own sportscar squad. The report also notes that norris isn’t the only F1 champion to have a presence in other race series.
