Well-known Dhallywood antagonist Shiba Shanu has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) of the Bangladesh Shilpa Kalyan Trust. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Wednesday, October 28, confirming his appointment on a one-year contractual basis. Under the terms, he will receive salary and benefits equivalent to a Grade-2 official at the rank of Additional Secretary.
Terms of Appointment
- The appointment is governed by Section 12(2) of the Bangladesh Shilpa Kalyan Trust Act, 2001.
- Shanu is required to resign from all other professional, business, or organizational affiliations, including public, semi-public, and private entities, to assume this role.
- Other specific conditions of the appointment will be formalized through a separate contract.
Impact on Current Roles
Shiba Shanu, whose real name is Chowdhury Mazhar Ali, currently serves as the President of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association. Adhering to the ministry’s mandate would require him to vacate his presidency, a decision he has not yet finalized. In recent years, Shanu has shifted his focus toward political and organizational activities, leading to reduced activity in acting.
Shanu debuted on the big screen in 1998 with the film ‘Matribhumi’. Throughout his lengthy career, he has appeared in over 500 films, primarily in antagonist roles, establishing a distinct presence in the Bangladeshi film industry.
