The Jamaica Kingsmen moved off the bottom of the points table on Tuesday, August 18, securing a decisive 51-run victory over the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Sabina Park. The win was anchored by a stellar all-round display from Keemo Paul, who struck a vital 65 with the bat before claiming 3 for 30 to dismantle the Patriots’ chase.
Sent in to bat, the Kingsmen faced an early crisis as Saurabh Netravalkar delivered a double-wicket maiden, removing Kirk Mckenzie and Keacy Carty. Wanindu Hasaranga further pressured the side by trapping Usman Khan LBW, leaving the Kingsmen struggling at 42 for 3 after the Powerplay. The situation worsened when Hasaranga dismissed Reeza Hendricks, reducing the team to 54 for 4.
Keemo Paul then arrived at the crease to shift the momentum, immediately finding the boundary. He dominated Hasaranga, taking 25 runs off 11 deliveries from the leg-spinner, and later launched Netravalkar for 22 runs in the 17th over to reach his half-century. Paul finished with 65 off 36 balls, including five fours and five sixes, before falling to Jason Holder. Supported by a 99-run partnership with captain Rovman Powell, who contributed 49, the Kingsmen reached a competitive 181 for 6.
The Patriots’ response faltered early as Andre Fletcher fell in the opening over, followed by Johnson Charles in the fourth. Keemo Paul struck again in the fifth over, bowling Kyle Mayers to leave the Patriots at 45 for 3. Further pressure from Vitel Lawes, who dismissed Nikhil Chaudhary, and a mix-up that led to Dasun Shanaka’s run-out, left the Patriots reeling at 64 for 5.
Kevin Wickham and Navin Bidaisee attempted a recovery with a 44-run stand, but the momentum stalled when Bidaisee was retired out at the start of the 14th over. The decision proved costly as the Patriots collapsed, losing their final five wickets for just 22 runs. Paul returned in the 18th over to secure the final two wickets, sealing the match. The Patriots were eventually bowled out for 130 in 18 overs. The report also notes that before an all-round bowling effort restricted the Patriots to 130, a 99-run stand between Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul steadied the innings after an early wobble and helped them post 181 for 6. The report also notes that walking in with his team in trouble at 54 for 4, Keemo Paul produced a whirlwind innings to tilt the game back in his team’s favour. The report also notes that scoring 25 runs off the 11 balls he faced from the legspinner, he struck the very first ball he faced for a boundary and continued to dominate Hasaranga. The report also notes that he first had Kirk Mckenzie chopping on before getting Keacy Carty to edge one to the keeper. The report also notes that having just struck Obed McCoy for six, Powell fell one run short of his fifty in the following over. The report also notes that but the Kingsmen had done enough damage by then to finish with a competitive total. The report also notes that in reply, the Patriots too did not enjoy a good Powerplay.
