Popular Bangladeshi television actress Jannatul Sumaiya Himi has successfully bridged the gap between a high-profile acting career and academic excellence. Despite the demanding nature of shooting schedules, she achieved a perfect GPA-5 in both her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
Reflecting on her journey, Himi noted that she completed her SSC exams in 2015, followed by the HSC two years later. During her SSC period, she was actively filming the serial drama ‘Mohar Ali.’ Because serial productions require strict adherence to collective cast schedules, she could not opt out of filming. She recounted the experience of balancing her academic commitments with work, noting that she often headed straight to the set after finishing her exams. While challenging, she found the process rewarding because her studies were largely prepared in advance.
Himi did not view her acting work as an obstacle to her education. In fact, she frequently brought her books to the set, a habit that earned her a reputation as a diligent student among her peers. She mentioned that she could often complete her studies during downtime on location. This disciplined approach continued during her HSC exams, although she ensured she did not have filming commitments immediately after those examinations concluded.
The motivation behind her academic focus was personal, rooted in her family background. As the only individual in her family pursuing a career in the performing arts, she felt a strong sense of responsibility to prove herself. She explained that she felt a unique pressure to excel academically so that no one could criticize her career choice or suggest that her work was negatively impacting her education. She wanted to ensure her parents remained proud of her efforts, noting that they never imposed excessive pressure on her, only encouraging her to do her best.
Her parents’ only strict rule was never to rely on academic dishonesty, insisting that she should only write what she understood. This guidance, combined with her internal drive, helped her maintain consistent performance. She emphasized that solid preparation is the key to achieving good results, regardless of how busy one’s schedule becomes.
Professionally, Himi has seen significant success, most notably in the drama ‘Shoshurbari-te Eid,’ directed by Mohin Khan and featuring Niloy Alamgir, which became one of the most-viewed dramas in the industry. Recently, she returned to television serials after a six-year hiatus since her last project, ‘Smritir Alpona.’ Her latest series, ‘Prothom Premer Golpo,’ directed by Tanvir Tanmoy, has received a warm response from viewers. While acknowledging that some fans of her comedy work may have different expectations, she expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback and stated her commitment to pursuing story-driven, quality projects moving forward.
