Australia has recalled fast bowler Mahli Beardman to its limited-overs squads for the upcoming home series against England, which comprises three ODIs and five T20Is. The 21-year-old pacer, who last featured in a solitary ODI in January 2026, earned his spot following standout performances for Australia A during their recent tour of India. In addition to Beardman, selectors have called up Jack Edwards, Spencer Johnson, and Liam Scott to the ODI side, while Lachlan Shaw received his maiden international call-up following strong displays in the BBL and for Australia A.

The T20I squad will see the return of Jake Fraser-McGurk, last seen in the national setup in July 2025, alongside Mitch Owen. Nathan Ellis, currently recovering from a side strain, has been omitted from the ODIs but retains his place in the T20I squad. Mitchell Marsh will lead the team across both formats during the series.

To manage player fatigue ahead of a pivotal home Test series against New Zealand and an upcoming tour of India, the veteran pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood have been rested. These players will undergo a controlled de-load phase following their commitments in South Africa to ensure they are prepared for a stretch of 10 consecutive Test matches. Workload management also applies to Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly, and Cameron Green, whose participation will be monitored throughout the T20 series.

Chair of selectors George Bailey emphasized that the series provides a vital opportunity for newer players to prove themselves against high-caliber opposition. “We are in the middle of a highly demanding phase of our schedule,” Bailey stated. “Our multi-format players are transitioning directly from the tour of South Africa into an ODI and T20 series, leaving a narrow window to ensure the squad is physically prepared and fresh for the upcoming New Zealand Test series.”

Bailey noted that from the time the Test squad gathers in Perth until the conclusion of the 150th Anniversary Test against England, the team will have spent over 100 days on the road. Consequently, individual physical and mental preparation plans are being prioritized.

Reflecting on the squad’s composition, Bailey praised the emerging talent. “Mahli Beardman’s recent performances for Australia A were impressive, and we are incredibly excited for his return. We think he can continue to develop into an all-format player. Liam Scott returns to the ODI squad, and we are excited by the fact he learns from each opportunity and has grown his game through strong performances over the past 12 to 18 months.”

Regarding the return of Fraser-McGurk, Bailey added, “Jake and Mitch return to the T20 side, and we believe their ball-striking can be a point of difference in the shorter formats. They are good examples of players who have had an opportunity at the international level and have continued working on their game from what they learnt from those experiences. Lachie Shaw is a highly talented cricketer we also think will develop quickly and has a powerful game that will impact in the T20 format, while Sam Harper has performed strongly in domestic cricket and is executing his style consistently across all formats.”
