Cardiff native Jamie Miller has secured the top spot on the UK singles chart with his viral hit, Babydoll. According to the Official Charts Company, the 29-year-old singer narrowly outperformed Tate McRae’s track, Housewife, to claim the number one position this Friday. This achievement marks the first time a Welsh artist has topped the UK singles chart since 2011, when Sian Evans featured on DJ Fresh’s track, Louder. Jamie Miller has become the first Welsh artist to top the UK singles chart in 15 years with his viral TikTok hit, Babydoll.

The milestone is particularly significant for Miller, who is now the first solo male Welsh artist to achieve a number one single in 41 years. The last artist to hold that distinction was Shakin’ Stevens with his 1985 festive hit, Merry Christmas Everyone. Reflecting on the success, Miller expressed his disbelief, stating, “I don’t even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys.”

The path to success for Babydoll was unconventional.

Released on 7 August, the song gained momentum after actress Jennifer Love Hewitt shared videos featuring the track on social media.

The resulting viral trend on TikTok propelled the song to the top of the US iTunes pop chart and marked Miller’s first entry onto the US Billboard Hot 100.

This follows a period of uncertainty for the artist, who admitted that he had considered walking away from his music career entirely at the beginning of 2026.

Miller, who once gained recognition after placing third on the sixth season of The Voice UK, has also collaborated on a separate version of the track with Off Campus star Antonio Cipriano. The two artists decided to record the duet after joking about the possibility on social media. Cipriano recently praised Miller, describing him as “one of the best vocalists I’ve ever heard” and noting that he has admired the singer’s talent for years.

Reflecting on his musical roots, Miller recalled that he first became interested in singing following an audition for a school performance. Today, he remains focused on the future, expressing pride in his new work and a strong desire to tour his upcoming album, specifically looking forward to bringing his music back to Wales. The singer, whose father works as an Uber driver in Cardiff, has seen his career span nearly a decade since his initial national television breakthrough. According to miller, who previously, Wales his dad is an Uber driver in Cardiff, launched his career nearly a decade ago as a 19-year-old, after coming third on the sixth season of The Voice UK. According to he, He was “proud” of his new music and was excited to share his latest album with the world and to tour it – in particular, he said, to bring it to Wales.

The wider UK charts also saw notable activity. The top five was rounded out by Olivia Rodrigo’s remix of Expectations featuring Chappell Roan, and Ashe’s track Stop The Wedding, which landed at number four. Meanwhile, in the albums chart, Irish band Fontaines DC claimed their second number one album with Dopamine Chamber. Their record achieved the third-largest opening week of 2026 and represents the fastest-selling Irish studio album since Snow Patrol’s 2011 release, Fallen Empires.
