John Mayer has shared the creative origins of his latest single, which he says began as a simple voice memo titled “Tom and Jerry.” The American singer-songwriter and guitarist explained that the project evolved from a specific lyric: “And if you ever come through, which I doubt you’ll do, I’ll run away with you.” According to the musician, the process of bringing those feelings to life was an adventurous creative journey. The adventure began in bringing that feeling to life,” he wrote in the caption, from that moment on.
Highlighting the collaborative effort behind the track, Mayer praised his team of dedicated artists for their commitment to refining the sound until it became a clear “picture.” He expressed gratitude for working with such a talented group, stating that their persistence is essential to his process. Fans can get an exclusive preview of the music tomorrow on the SiriusXM channel Life with John Mayer, followed by the official release this Friday. According to he added: “I’ve, It before, but it bears repeating every time – I get to work with a group of incredibly talented and deeply dedicated artists who will stop at nothing until the sound comes into focus and becomes a p.
Mayer’s career began after he moved from Boston’s Berklee College of Music to Atlanta in 1997. He originally performed in the rock duo Lo-Fi Masters alongside guitarist Clay Cook. Following the pair’s separation, Mayer performed at local venues to hone his craft, eventually gaining wider attention after a successful appearance at the 2000 South by Southwest festival. That performance led to a contract with Aware Records, a Columbia Records imprint, which produced his debut extended play, Inside Wants Out.
The musician quickly gained momentum with his first two studio albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, both of which achieved significant commercial and critical success. Notably, the former album included his widely known single “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” Mayer continues to balance his legacy with new projects as he prepares to release this latest work.
