Rashmika Mandanna recently shared insights into the intense transformation of her co-star Vijay Deverakonda during the production of their latest film, Ranabali. Following the movie’s theatrical release, the actress noted that Vijay became so deeply immersed in his titular character that a stark contrast emerged between the man she knew personally and the persona he portrayed on screen. During press interactions, Rashmika admitted that even while speaking with him off-camera during shoots, she struggled to see the real Vijay, often questioning his whereabouts as he remained locked in the character’s mindset.

Reflecting on this process, Rashmika highlighted the depth and intensity Vijay brought to the role, acknowledging that it took her time to fully process his commitment. She remarked that some roles consume an actor so completely that every emotion becomes a lived experience, noting that witnessing Vijay’s total immersion was a unique professional encounter for her. To illustrate this phenomenon, she drew a direct comparison to Allu Arjun’s dedication in Pushpa-2, noting that she experienced a similar shift when working with him. She observed that just as there is a distinct difference between Allu Arjun and his character Pushpa, she witnessed an identical metamorphosis in Vijay, emphasizing that those familiar with the acting craft would understand the complexity of such a transition.

This project marks another collaboration for the duo, who previously shared the screen in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. However, Rashmika emphasized that her experience on Ranabali was distinct from their previous outings. The film itself is set against the backdrop of the Great Madras Famine, spanning from 1876 to 1878, and revolves around the legend of Singanamala Bobbili Ranabali, a warrior whose fate was foretold by a mysterious prophecy in the hills of Rayalaseema.

The narrative follows Ranabali, who grows into a skilled horseman and marries Jayamma, only to see their peaceful existence shattered by the harsh realities of the famine and the greed of colonial rulers. When the ruthless officer Sir Theodore Hector threatens his land and people, Ranabali leads a fierce resistance, with his wife by his side to defend their community and freedom. Alongside the lead pair of Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, the film features Arnold Vosloo, renowned for his role in The Mummy, in a significant part.
