Sherif Fathy, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held discussions with Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Museums Authority and President of the Global Studies University, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, aimed to identify new avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

During the session, Minister Fathy emphasized the deep-rooted historical and fraternal bonds connecting the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, noting the potential for further growth in their relations. The dialogue focused on technical exchange, specifically regarding archaeology, museum management, and capacity-building programs, with officials looking to leverage Egypt’s extensive expertise in restoration and historical site stewardship.

Sheikha Hoor articulated her commitment to ensuring museum collections serve as accessible resources for public knowledge. She underscored the vital role Sharjah’s cultural institutions play in bridging art, history, and contemporary academic practice. Supporting this initiative, Professor Salah Mohammed Hassan, Director of the Global Studies University, highlighted the integration of museum and heritage studies into the university’s postgraduate curricula. The Master’s program in Critical Museum and Heritage Studies is expected to facilitate a robust exchange of knowledge between the academic sector and museum professionals in both Egypt and Sharjah.

The two sides discussed potential projects, including the possibility of hosting temporary Egyptian antiquities exhibitions in Sharjah, paired with professional workshops and cultural events. These efforts are intended to promote Egypt’s ancient civilization while highlighting its diverse archaeological tourism offerings. Both parties agreed to continue exchanging formal proposals to eventually establish a comprehensive cooperation protocol outlining the framework for these joint endeavors.

Attendees representing the Global Studies University included Professor Salah Mohammed Hassan, Fatima Al Jasmi, and Sarah Magdy, Director of Academic Affairs. Egypt’s delegation featured Dr. Ahmed Hamida, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Rana Gohar, the Minister’s Adviser for Communications and External Relations, who also serves as the General Supervisor of the Ministry’s General Department of International Relations and Agreements.

Beyond these international discussions, Sheikha Hoor recently authorized the creation of the “Sharjah Design Council,” a strategic move intended to foster a sustainable creative ecosystem within the emirate. This body will oversee the launch of “Sharjah Design Days,” a platform designed to connect global creatives, designers, and industry specialists. The council aligns with broader goals to attract global talent and reinforce Sharjah’s status as a leading regional hub for design and cultural industries.

The council is tasked with formulating long-term policies for the design sector and developing training platforms for both emerging and established professionals. Furthermore, it will manage specialized exhibitions, showcases, and sustainable manufacturing initiatives. By supporting innovation and streamlining creative production, the Sharjah Design Council aims to strengthen the emirate’s position in the international design landscape while establishing long-term regional and global partnerships.
