Marvel Studios officially unveiled the primary cast for its highly anticipated X-Men reboot during the Disney D23 fan event held in the United States this past Friday. The announcement confirmed seven key roles for the upcoming production, which is currently operating without a formal title.
Among the notable additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. Addressing the crowd at the event, Sink remarked that it was “so wonderful” to be there and to “finally talk about the character after months of speculation.” It was confirmed that she will portray Jean Grey, a character teased during her appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day last month.
Christopher Abbott has been tapped to play the iconic Professor Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X. This character has a storied history on screen, having been portrayed by Sir Patrick Stewart in previous entries such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Stewart is slated to reprise the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday this December, before Abbott takes over the mantle for the X-Men film.
Star Wars actor Adam Driver joined the presentation via video-link to reveal his role as the villainous Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mr. Sinister. Driver told fans he had been talking “for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time.”
The remaining cast members announced include Heartstopper actor Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. The ensemble was presented alongside director Jake Schreier, with the film currently scheduled for a May 2028 theatrical release.
During the same D23 showcase, Marvel debuted a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring a high-stakes fight scene between Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige noted that further X-Men casting announcements are expected in the near future.
This reboot follows the 2019 release of Dark Phoenix, which starred Jennifer Lawrence and Sophie Turner. That film was released under the 20th Century Fox banner, though Disney had acquired the rights to the franchise earlier that same year.
The new X-Men film, which is currently untitled, will be directed by Jake Schreier and is out in cinemas in May 2028.
