Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials confirmed on Monday, August 31, that pacer Nahid Rana will not be part of the squad for the upcoming Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place in Japan starting in mid-September. The decision comes as the board aims to manage the fast bowler’s ongoing rehabilitation process carefully.
Rana has been sidelined since sustaining a side strain injury during the tour of Zimbabwe, an issue that also forced him to miss the recently concluded two-match Test series against Australia. Although he resumed bowling in the nets at the BCB Academy premises on Monday after a six-week layoff, selectors have opted against rushing his return to competitive action.
BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar emphasized that the board is unwilling to take any unnecessary risks with the player’s fitness. “We are not considering Nahid Rana for the Asian Games owing to his rehabilitation process,” Bashar stated. He confirmed that while Rana is officially excluded from the Asian Games roster, the focus has shifted toward ensuring he is ready for the Afghanistan series in October. “He will return with the Afghanistan series. It remains to be seen whether he will play Test or ODI. But it is 100% confirmed that he will not play in the Asian Games,” Bashar added.
