A fire near the tracks in the London Paddington area has caused significant rail disruption, resulting in the cancellation of services to Heathrow Airport. National Rail reported that the blaze triggered an electricity supply failure, effectively blocking all lines between Paddington and the airport.
Service Suspensions and Delays
- The Heathrow Express has suspended all trains in both directions between Paddington and the airport.
- Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the Elizabeth line is suspended between Paddington and Heathrow terminals four and five, as well as between Paddington and Reading.
- The Elizabeth line section to Abbey Wood is currently experiencing severe delays.
- Great Western Railway (GWR) services are subject to cancellations, delays, or terminations at Reading, with disruption expected until 7pm.
National Rail anticipates that cancellations and delays will persist until at least 7.15pm. In addition to the fire-related issues, TfL reported severe delays across the entire Piccadilly line following an earlier trespasser incident at Hammersmith. Heathrow Airport has advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys. The London Fire Brigade has been contacted for comment regarding the incident, which has been documented by social media users sharing images of large plumes of smoke rising near the Paddington area.
