Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia has returned to the screen as a gang leader for the 21st edition of the reality show Roadies. Speaking about her experience on the program, Dhupia emphasized her commitment to gender equality, noting that she has never believed in restricting individuals based on their gender. She shared that the show provides a platform for female contestants to voice their stories and opinions, ensuring they feel empowered and equal to their male counterparts.
Addressing the challenge of maintaining confidence in a space often dominated by male energy, Dhupia explained that her perspective is shaped by her upbringing. She stated that she does not harbor gender biases, having been raised without the notion that certain tasks or behaviors are exclusive to one gender. According to Dhupia, she has never personally experienced gender inequality and strives to foster an environment where contestants feel like equals rather than being defined by their gender.
Dhupia noted that while many female participants arrive with stories about being raised differently due to societal expectations, the show allows them to move past those labels. She remarked that the platform does not advocate for gender-based limitations, instead encouraging a sense of equality that prevents anyone from feeling less or more powerful than others in the group.
The current season features a diverse panel of six gang leaders, including Nikhil Chinapa, Neha Dhupia, Prince Narula, Abhishek Malhan, Bani J, and Baseer Ali. For social media star Abhishek Malhan, joining the show as a leader represents a full-circle moment. He recalled his earlier years watching the auditions hosted by Raghu Ram and Rajiv Lakshman, during which he had firmly decided he would do anything in life except participate in Roadies.
Reflecting on his transition from a skeptical viewer to a central figure on the show, Malhan remarked on the irony of his career path. He admitted that he had never watched a complete season of the show in the past, yet he now finds himself in a leadership role. This evolution highlights the unpredictable nature of his journey, moving from a young person questioning who would choose to participate in the program to becoming a key leader in its 21st installment.
