Mumbai Indians have officially appointed Luke Williams as head coach for their women’s side ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. The 46-year-old Australian, who most recently served as an assistant coach for the England women’s team, takes over from Lisa Keightley, who departs following a single season at the helm.
Williams brings a decorated resume to the franchise, highlighted by his success in steering Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the WPL title in 2024. His extensive background in women’s cricket also includes coaching the Adelaide Strikers to a maiden WBBL championship in 2022-23 and two additional runners-up finishes. Furthermore, he contributed to Southern Brave’s successful 2023 campaign in The Hundred as an assistant coach.
The appointment marks a strategic pivot for the Mumbai Indians, who are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2026 campaign. During that season, the team led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur managed only three victories, resulting in a fourth-place finish.
