Kieron Bowie has emerged as a key contributor for Scotland, scoring his first international goal during the team’s 2-0 victory over North Macedonia. His performance marks a significant personal turnaround following a period of frustration earlier this year. Sometimes, the solution to a problem can be hiding in plain sight.
On 19 May, Scotland manager Steve Clarke finalized his roster for the World Cup journey. Despite finding the net for Hellas Verona during a challenging Serie A campaign, Bowie was omitted from the squad. The national team eventually struggled for offensive production in the USA, managing only a single goal from John McGinn throughout the tournament.
Reflecting on the decision, Bowie recalled the notification from the coaching staff. “I received a message from him saying that I’m not in the squad but these things happen and it’s just about how you bounce back from it to be honest,” he stated. The forward maintained a positive outlook, noting his satisfaction with his club form despite Verona’s relegation difficulties.
To clear his head following the international snub, Bowie turned away from the pitch. “I just spent a lot of time at home with my family and then a little golf holiday to Portugal for a week and that was all I did,” he added. Now back in the fold, he is focused on securing his place in Clarke’s attacking options.
