Popular actress Tanjin Tisha has been granted bail in a breach of trust case filed against her. On Thursday, Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana issued the bail order following a surrender and hearing session at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court. The actress appeared in court through her legal counsel to formally request bail, which the judge subsequently approved.
During the proceedings, defense lawyer Nihar Hossain Faruk emphasized that his client is a well-known public figure who respects the legal process. He explained that the dispute originated from an arrangement with the online fashion page ‘Aponia.’ According to the defense, the shop owners had approached Tisha, offering her a saree in exchange for promotional social media posts. Tisha reportedly fulfilled part of this agreement by uploading a video featuring the garment, but the plaintiff filed a legal complaint before the process was completed.
The defense counsel presented the disputed saree in court, asserting that the item remained in its original packaging and had not been worn. This claim sparked a sharp rebuttal from the plaintiff’s lawyer, Jahirul Islam Mukul, who questioned how the actress could have filmed a promotional video if the saree had never been removed from its packaging. Mukul further argued that the case was not filed without cause, noting that a legal notice had been issued previously. He stated that the case is currently under investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of police, alleging that Tisha had repeatedly ignored summons to appear for questioning.
The lawsuit centers on allegations that Tisha obtained a saree valued at approximately 28,800 BDT from ‘Aponia’ under the promise of promotion and payment, but subsequently ceased all communication with the business. The plaintiff’s counsel argued that the charges involve non-bailable sections of the law and requested that the court remand the actress into custody, maintaining that the law should apply equally to everyone, regardless of their celebrity status. Despite these arguments, the court granted the bail application, allowing the actress to remain free while the investigation continues.
