New Zealand has bolstered its batting lineup for the upcoming home ODI series against India by naming Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman in the squad. The pair were forced to miss the preceding T20 international matches due to injuries sustained last month. Ravindra suffered a dislocated shoulder while attempting a catch during a promotional event, while Chapman has been recovering from a hamstring strain.

Coach Rob Walter has assembled an expansive 21-player roster for the five-match ODI series scheduled for November. The selection strategy involves rotation, with only six players, including captain Mitchell Santner, designated to participate in the entire series. An additional eight players will feature only in the first three matches before departing to prepare for the subsequent two-Test series against India. Which follows five T20s, coach Rob Walter named an enlarged group of 21 players for five ODI matches in November.

Seven new players are set to join the squad for the final two ODIs. Among these incoming participants are opening batters Finn Allen and Tim Seifert alongside fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. These three individuals have primarily focused on professional T20 leagues recently and have not represented the national side in 50-over cricket for the past 18 months.

Walter expressed confidence in the team’s depth, noting it was a significant advantage to have 21 players involved across the series. He emphasized that the ODI matches serve as a vital platform for players to press their claims for selection ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Regarding the returning trio, Walter highlighted the tactical importance of reintegrating them. He specifically noted the chance for Allen and Seifert to demonstrate their capabilities in the longer format, building upon their proven success in the T20 arena. “We’re incredibly lucky to have the depth that we do to have 21 players involved in the series,” Walter added, noting the value of bringing Ferguson, Allen, and Seifert back into the ODI fold.
