Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games following a serious injury. The 25-year-old suffered a “high-grade” right hamstring tear on August 3 while representing Southern Brave during The Hundred in England. The BCCI Medical Team conducted an assessment at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, confirming the injury’s severity and necessitating her withdrawal from both international campaigns.
Pratika Rawal has been named as the replacement in India’s Asia Cup squad. Rawal, who has previously represented India in ODIs, makes her return to the national fold after recovering from a knee injury that required stitches, an issue that had previously ruled her out of the recent Test match against England. Her inclusion provides depth to the squad as they prepare for the continental tournament.
The Asia Cup begins in the UAE on August 28, with India drawn alongside Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong in Group A. India will face Pakistan in the tournament’s marquee clash on September 5 in Dubai, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for September 13.
Rodrigues will also miss the Asian Games in Nagoya, where cricket will be played in the T20 format again from September 17 to October 3. India enters as the top-seeded team and will face Japan in the quarter-final, with a potential semi-final against Bangladesh or Hong Kong, China. Pakistan are in the other half of the draw, meaning the arch-rivals can meet only in the gold-medal match or the bronze-medal play-off, both scheduled for September 22.
