Arsenal extended their flawless start to the Champions League campaign on Tuesday with a decisive 3-0 victory against Lille at the Emirates Stadium. The result moves the Gunners into a shared lead at the top of the standings alongside Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona. Arsenal blew away Lille with a three-goal blitz in seven second-half minutes for a 3-0 win to extend their perfect start to the Champions League on Tuesday.
Manager Mikel Arteta rotated his squad significantly, making five changes from the lineup that defeated Leeds 2-1 on Saturday. While the first half ended goalless, Lille boss Davide Ancelotti initially appeared the more satisfied coach, especially after a strike from Ayase Ueda was disallowed for offside. Mikel Arteta was able to use the wealth of resources at his disposal as he made five changes to the side that beat Leeds 2-1 on Saturday.
Arsenal’s Bruno Guimaraes threatened the Lille goal twice before the interval, firing wide from short range and testing goalkeeper Berke Ozer with a long-range effort. However, the game shifted momentum shortly after the hour mark when Jurrien Timber converted a pass from Noni Madueke to break the deadlock. The Gunners quickly went through the gears in the second period once Timber dinked the ball over Ozer from Noni Madueke’s pass.
Arteta bolstered his attack with the late introduction of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard, which immediately paid dividends. Eberechi Eze doubled the lead after connecting with a low cross from Saka, finding the top corner with a deflected shot. Shortly after, Saka added the third goal, completing a sharp team move initiated by a Havertz cut-back.
The match also featured a nostalgic moment for the home supporters, as former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud made a late appearance for Lille. Giroud, who tallied 105 goals during his six-year tenure at the London club, was unable to find the net, leaving the visitors still searching for their first point of the tournament following an opening-match loss to Real Betis.
