Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Argentina international goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year contract. The 34-year-old is set to join the Premier League side as the primary backup to Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
This move marks a return to the Etihad Stadium for Rulli, who previously spent the 2016/17 season with the club without making a first-team appearance. The transfer comes as Marseille looks to stabilize its finances following a 10 million euro fine for failing to meet UEFA break-even requirements. The club’s fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 for the 2025-2026 season also means they will miss out on Champions League revenue, forcing a summer clear-out of key personnel.
Rulli is the latest departure from the French side, following the exit of Argentine defender Facundo Medina, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday after only one season. Marseille has also offloaded several high-earning players recently, including English forward Mason Greenwood, who transferred to Fenerbahce, and Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who signed with Spanish club Deportivo La Coruña.
