Actor Danny Dyer and Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP Kevin McKenna traveled down the River Thames on a boat carrying a large sculpture shaped like excrement to protest against current water industry practices. The pair subsequently delivered a petition to Downing Street demanding the nationalisation of water companies, an initiative supported by nearly 350,000 signatories through the group SOS Whitstable. According to southern Water, which supplies water to the Isle of Sheppey,, It was “tackling the root causes of pollution through our record £8.9bn investment programme” and cut pollution incidents by almost a third between 2023.

Dyer, who operates a caravan park on the Isle of Sheppey alongside his daughter Dani, has become a vocal critic of the industry. He previously labeled the state of bathing waters a disgrace and characterized sewage discharges as a dangerous issue. He joined a local protest in Leysdown in September alongside his daughter and singer Becky Hill, backed by Surfers Against Sewage.

McKenna noted that public frustration regarding sewage discharges is widespread and he is determined to see the issue resolved. Speaking outside Downing Street, McKenna told: “What you see is what you get with Danny, he is a man of passion and he is determined to do this.
