Dennis Haskins, the veteran actor celebrated for portraying the affable Principal Richard Belding on the popular NBC sitcom Saved by the Bell, has died at the age of 75. His passing was confirmed early Tuesday by his long-term agent, Jay Schachter.
Reflecting on their two-decade professional and personal relationship, Schachter called the death a tragic loss. He remembered Haskins as a genuinely kind individual who cherished his fans, always prioritizing them regardless of the circumstances. Expressing deep personal heartbreak, Schachter noted that while the world adored the character of Mr. Belding, those who knew Haskins personally held an even greater affection for him.
The show Saved by the Bell, which aired from 1989 to 1993, focused on the chaotic adventures of students at the fictional Bayside High in Southern California. Drawing stylistic inspiration from the comedy film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the sitcom frequently depicted a school environment where the energetic teenagers exerted more influence than their overwhelmed, hapless principal.
