A lengthy police investigation has concluded that sexual assault and physical abuse allegations brought against Dhaka University student and emerging singer Abu Zahid Antu by model and Eden College student Jannatun Tajri Ora are entirely false and baseless. Following the probe, the investigation officer recently submitted a final report to the court, formally recommending that Antu be fully exempted from the case.
The controversy dates back to their initial meeting in 2025 at the Dhaka University TSC, where they connected through guitar lessons. The professional acquaintance eventually evolved into a romantic relationship, which later ended in a breakup. On May 31, 2025, Ora filed a formal complaint at the Gulshan Police Station under the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act, alleging that Antu had lured her to a Gulshan apartment on May 2 for a product photoshoot, where she claimed he assaulted her.
However, the investigation led by Sub-Inspector K.M. Rashidur Rahman of Gulshan Police Station revealed a contradictory account. Evidence suggests that Ora had repeatedly proposed a relationship to the singer, which he consistently declined, eventually leading to a cessation of contact. Later, when Ora requested to hold a product photoshoot at Antu’s home studio, he agreed to the professional arrangement.
According to investigative findings, Ora arrived at Antu’s residence on the morning of May 2 but did not encounter him immediately. They met later that afternoon in the office room of the residence. While Antu was away from the room, having left his mobile phone to charge, he received a call that Ora answered, identifying herself as his wife. Upon learning of this, Antu confronted her in the presence of witnesses, causing her significant embarrassment. Police assert that this specific incident of being confronted fueled the motive to initiate legal action against him as a form of retaliation.
Police thoroughly analyzed call detail records, building CCTV footage, and testimonies from neutral witnesses, finding no evidence to support the claims. Furthermore, medical examinations conducted at Kurmitola General Hospital found no physical signs of trauma or assault on the complainant. Consequently, investigators concluded the entire case was a fabricated drama staged to tarnish the singer’s social reputation and pressure him into marriage.
In the final report submitted on July 31, the police not only sought Antu’s acquittal but also requested the court’s permission to initiate prosecution against Ora under Section 17 of the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act for filing a false case. Expressing deep frustration, Antu stated that the ordeal has caused him significant social and professional damage, questioning who would be held accountable for the harassment he endured despite being proven innocent.
