BCCI Relocates Duleep Trophy Final to Chennai to Boost Public Attendance

Update: 19 August 2026, 8:56:05 PM

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially moved the Duleep Trophy final from Bengaluru to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the change, explaining that the shift aims to provide the general public with an opportunity to watch the country’s top cricketers in action.

While the tournament’s two quarterfinals and two semifinals will proceed at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, Saikia noted that government restrictions at that facility prevent public access. Consequently, the board opted to relocate the championship match to Chennai to ensure fan engagement. The five-day final is scheduled to commence on September 6.

The inter-zonal red-ball competition kicks off on August 23 with simultaneous quarterfinal clashes between East Zone and North East Zone, and North Zone against West Zone. The semifinals are set to begin on August 30. All matches will be live-streamed, with select games, including the final, also receiving television coverage. Central Zone enters the tournament as the defending champions following their victory over South Zone in the previous final.
