Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has confirmed he is managing a neurological condition after collapsing during a preseason friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday. This marks the second such incident in three days, following a similar collapse during a match against Leipzig on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Germany international went down shortly after entering Tuesday’s game as a second-half substitute. Players from both sides formed a protective circle while he received medical attention before he was helped off the pitch. During the previous incident against Leipzig, the German news agency DPA reported that Musiala left the field on his own but appeared dazed.
Following Tuesday’s match, Musiala shared an update on Instagram, revealing he was diagnosed with temporary “but easily treatable absence seizures” caused by a neurological problem. “These can lead to the moments that happened recently, such as against Leipzig or even now in Heidenheim,” he wrote. While Bayern’s official report merely stated there was a “setback” involving a knock, Musiala emphasized he is “very optimistic” and receiving excellent care.
“The important thing is that there is no additional health risk,” Musiala added. He noted that in coordination with medical experts, he intends to continue his daily life and football career to aid his recovery. Bayern Munich is scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund this Saturday in the German Supercup, the traditional season opener.
