Comedian and actor Jasper Carrott has shared his deep pride and affection for his daughter, Lucy Davis, following her public announcement that she has been diagnosed with incurable breast cancer. The actress, widely recognized for her role as receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the hit sitcom The Office, disclosed her health status on Tuesday, prompting a significant wave of support from fans and colleagues alike.
Speaking to, Carrott—whose legal name is Robert Davis—described the current period as a challenging time for their family. He stated that they have been providing her with every possible support since the diagnosis was confirmed. Expressing gratitude for the public response, he noted that the family remains hopeful for her future and is deeply moved by the care shown by so many individuals.
Carrott, a prominent figure in British television since the 1970s known for his stand-up comedy, music, and series like The Detectives, Canned Carrott, and Golden Balls, emphasized his admiration for his daughter. He remarked that the way she has navigated various traumatic health challenges serves as a profound lesson to others, adding that the family is requesting privacy as they move forward.
In her own statement posted to Instagram, Davis explained that she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a year and a half ago. The disease has metastasized to her bones, specifically affecting her spine, right hip, and ribs. She clarified that the condition is considered incurable and that it is too late for chemotherapy. Davis urged others to remain vigilant, noting that the initial sign she discovered was not a typical lump, but rather a tiny, hard spot that she almost overlooked.
Despite the diagnosis, Davis expressed a desire to live the remainder of her life as joyfully as possible, stating that she is at peace and unafraid of what lies ahead. Beyond her iconic work on The Office, her career includes appearances in Shaun of the Dead, Wonder Woman, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and the radio drama The Archers.
The announcement has drawn messages of solidarity from across the entertainment industry. Her former co-stars, including Ricky Gervais and Jenna Fischer—who played the counterpart to Davis’s character in the American version of The Office—offered their love and support. Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy, who has also been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer, shared a message of encouragement, writing, “Keep going Lucy.”
According to Cancer Research UK, stage four breast cancer occurs when the disease spreads from the breast tissue to other parts of the body. While it is classified as incurable, medical treatments can often control the progression of the cancer for several years.
The NHS advises that individuals should be aware of potential symptoms of breast cancer, which can include a lump or swelling in the breast, chest, or armpit. Other warning signs include changes to the skin, such as dimpling or redness, alterations in the size or shape of the breast, nipple discharge—particularly if it contains blood—or changes to the appearance of the nipple, such as inversion or rashes.
