During a candid appearance on the sixth season of the popular chat show Koffee With Karan, Katrina Kaif opened up about her personal growth and the essential lessons she has learned through her experiences in relationships. The actress emphasized that her most significant realization has been the importance of personal autonomy, specifically noting that individuals should never rely on their partners for their own happiness. As she was interacting with host and filmmaker Karan Johar during the chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan season 6’, she shared that she had realised over the years that we should not depend on anyone else for our happiness. They felt most women need men or it’s necessary to have a man.
Kaif elaborated on her perspective during a discussion with friends, challenging the traditional notion that a woman’s well-being is inherently tied to being in a relationship. She noted that while she does not claim to speak for all women, she has found that being single has allowed her to become more comfortable with her true self. She admitted that earlier in her life, she often evaluated her own worth based on the attention or love she received from a partner, which she now recognizes led to unhealthy fluctuations in her self-esteem. I really don’t think that’s true for everyone.
Defining her ideal dynamic, Kaif stated that the most enduring relationships are built on mutual admiration, respect, and companionship rather than emotional neediness. She explained that placing the responsibility of one’s happiness onto a partner creates an unsustainable burden that eventually leads to disappointment. Instead, she advocates for a relationship model characterized by a sense of ease, where neither partner relies on the other for validation. Kaif is currently married to actor Vicky Kaushal, and the couple shares a son named Vihaan. According to her, the best kind of relationships are those where there is no dependence but only admiration, respect, and companionship, katrina added that.
The actress’s journey in the spotlight began long before her success in the Indian film industry. Born in Hong Kong and having lived in various countries, she eventually moved to London. Her career took off after she was scouted by filmmaker Kaizad Gustad at a fashion show, leading to her debut in the 2003 film Boom. Although her initial project was a commercial and critical disappointment, and she faced early challenges adapting to the industry due to language barriers, she remained persistent.
Kaif eventually transitioned into a successful Bollywood career following her appearance in the 2004 Telugu film Malliswari. She gained mainstream recognition through romantic comedies such as Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? in 2005 and Namastey London in 2007. Despite early criticism regarding her acting style and the nature of the roles she accepted, she continued to work steadily. Beyond her professional achievements, Kaif is also involved in philanthropic work through her mother’s charity, Relief Projects India, which supports underprivileged children, and she remains an active participant in live stage performances.
