Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi is reportedly on the verge of acquiring CD Eldense, a club competing in Spain’s second division. The Argentine star has allegedly reached an agreement in principle to purchase the shares currently held by the majority owner, TH Soluciones Group SAS. The Colombian investment firm, which took control of the Alicante-based club last October, is prepared to transfer its entire stake to Messi, pending formal approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD).
Based in the town of Elda, CD Eldense has spent three of the last four seasons in the Segunda Division. The club recently dismissed manager Claudio Barragan following a difficult start to the campaign, which saw the team secure only two points from their first four matches, leaving them near the bottom of the league table.
This potential acquisition would expand Messi’s growing portfolio in Spanish football, as he already purchased the fifth-tier side UE Cornella in April of this year. Beyond his ownership interests, the 39-year-old maintains a stake in Inter Miami, where he is under contract through the 2028 season. Messi, who retired from international football last month, previously spent 17 years at Barcelona, where he set a club record with 672 goals, before stints at Paris Saint-Germain and his current move to MLS.
As the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer, Messi earns a base salary of $12 million with a total guaranteed compensation of $20,446,667, according to ESPN. Since arriving in Miami three years ago, he has remained a central figure for the Herons, recently extending his contract last October. His performance on the pitch remains strong, with 18 goals and 12 assists across 20 MLS appearances during the 2026 season. The report also notes that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner also has stakes at his current club, Inter Miami, with whom he’s contracted till the end of the 2028 season.
