Singer Shilpa Rao faced an unexpected disruption during her performance at the Bollywood Music Project in Mumbai on Saturday, October 24, after her microphone was turned off midway through her set. The incident occurred before she could conclude her performance, as the event schedule was transitioned to the next artist, leaving the singer visibly distressed.
Taking to Instagram to share her disappointment, Rao wrote that a part of her heart felt broken, describing the sudden termination of such a beautiful moment as deeply painful. Despite the abrupt end, she expressed profound gratitude toward the audience, who continued to chant her name and offer their support even after the music stopped. She promised her fans that she would return to finish their incomplete story, reaffirming her love for Mumbai.
Following the online outcry, the event organizers issued a formal statement on their official Instagram account to express their sincere regrets. They apologized for the sudden conclusion of Rao’s performance and emphasized their deep respect for her contributions to the music industry, stating that they were honored to have her at the festival.
Addressing the cause of the disruption, the organizers explained that managing the schedule of a large-scale music festival featuring multiple artists can be challenging. They noted that when preceding performances exceed their allotted time slots, subsequent sets face delays. Furthermore, they pointed to strict local authority regulations and venue curfew constraints that limited their ability to compensate for the lost time, preventing them from showcasing Rao’s full performance. The event, which also featured performances by Himesh Reshammiya, Hariharan, Euphoria, Anu Malik, and Shahid Mallya, ultimately struggled to navigate the tight scheduling constraints that night.
