Sir Patrick Stewart, the celebrated British actor, has died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 86. His passing, which followed a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia, was confirmed on Thursday.
Sir Ian McKellen, Stewart’s longtime colleague and X-Men co-star, led the tributes to the late actor. He described Stewart as the most respected and beloved performer of his generation, adding: “He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and, in my case, love.”
Beyond his iconic portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek franchise, Stewart maintained a storied career that bridged the gap between major Hollywood blockbusters and classical theatre, earning him numerous accolades for his versatility.
