Vincent Pastore, a seasoned character actor celebrated for his portrayals of tough guys and mobsters, has died at the age of 80. He is most widely recognized for his 30-episode tenure as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, the confidant of Tony Soprano who eventually turns into an FBI informant on the hit series The Sopranos.
Bob McGowan, who served as Pastore’s manager since his time on the show, confirmed the news to The Associated Press. McGowan stated he was notified of the death on Saturday by fellow actor and client Vincent Curatola. Pastore was discovered at his residence on New York’s City Island after he had been unreachable for several days; McGowan had been attempting to contact him regarding a potential work opportunity.
Reflecting on his client’s character, McGowan remarked, “He was the most loyal client and he always gave to charity, and he was the kind of guy who would help anybody, which is rare in my business.” Pastore’s career spanned decades, with film credits dating back to the 1980s, including notable appearances in the 1990 films Goodfellas and Awakenings.
Born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Pastore’s life before Hollywood included military service.
