World-leading rare book dealers Peter Harrington will showcase a copy of David Bryce’s celebrated miniature the Holy Quran, one of the most iconic miniature books ever produced, at this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF).
Historical Significance of the Bryce Edition
- Printed in Glasgow during the late 1890s, the photolithographed Bryce Quran represents the earliest European-printed edition of the Quran in miniature format.
- Bryce designed these miniature Qurans for Muslim readers residing across Europe, the Indian subcontinent, East Africa, and the Middle East.
- While earlier miniature Qurans were lithographed in India and the Ottoman Empire, the Bryce edition achieved unparalleled commercial success.
The artifact measures only 26 by 19 millimeters and is photolithographed in Arabic. It remains bound in its original red leather with gilt decoration, housed within its original metal locket, which features an inset magnifying lens. Peter Harrington is offering this piece for £2,750 at the fair.
