Spain international Ferran Torres, the decisive goalscorer in last month’s World Cup final, has officially completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona. The 26-year-old striker, who has secured a five-year deal, cost the Ligue 1 champions a reported 50 million euros ($58m).
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning forward has signed with the Club until 2031,” the French side confirmed in an official statement released on Saturday. Torres expressed his enthusiasm regarding the transfer, stating he was “delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris St Germain.” He further thanked President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, football advisor Luis Campos, and head coach Luis Enrique for the opportunity to join the squad and contribute to their trophy ambitions.
The move reunites Torres with Luis Enrique, who previously managed the forward during his tenure as Spain coach, handing him his international debut during a 2020 Nations League match against Germany. A veteran of 65 international caps, Torres made a significant impact in the recent World Cup final as a substitute, scoring the extra-time goal that denied Argentina the chance to retain their title.
Known by the nickname “The Shark,” the former Valencia and Manchester City player joined Barcelona during the 2021/22 transfer window. During his four-and-a-half-season tenure at the Camp Nou, he netted 65 goals in 207 appearances. His record includes a crucial goal in the 2025 Copa del Rey final victory over Real Madrid and three La Liga titles. In his final campaign with the Catalan club, he recorded 21 goals and three assists across 49 appearances as Barcelona successfully defended their league crown.
Barcelona acknowledged his departure with a formal statement on their website: “The club would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons as a blaugrana and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his professional career.”
The arrival of Torres in Paris may influence the transfer market, specifically increasing Liverpool’s prospects of securing PSG’s 23-year-old winger Bradley Barcola. Barcola, who delivered standout performances for France during the World Cup, has been the subject of ongoing negotiations between the two clubs for several weeks. A reported asking price of approximately 150 million euros ($173m) set by PSG has previously served as the primary obstacle in those discussions.
Torres, who won three La Liga titles while at Barcelona, came on as a substitute in the World Cup final, and the 65-times-capped marksman scored in extra-time to dash Argentina’s hopes of retaining their title.
