Brighton Stun Arsenal 3-0 as Manchester City Take Premier

Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the Premier League title defense in a stunning 3-0 loss at Brighton on Saturday. After four straight wins for the champions, the defeat at the Amex Stadium came out of nowhere. Mikel Arteta’s team delivered an unusually sloppy performance, culminating in conceding a third goal from a corner, which is typically an area of strength for the Gunners.

Brighton Decisively Dominate

Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas set the tone in the first half, both scoring with impressive shots from outside the penalty area. Chema Andres then completed the comprehensive win, heading home at the back post from a Gross corner. The victory was especially sweet for Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, who had claimed “only one team tried to play football” after his side suffered a narrow home defeat to Arsenal last season.

Arsenal have often struggled against Brighton, who were the last team to hand them such a heavy defeat in any competition, having won 3-0 at Emirates Stadium back in May 2023. This result capped off a sensational week for Brighton, following their 5-0 league win over Coventry and a midweek English League Cup comeback where they overcame a two-goal deficit to beat Manchester United 3-2 away.

Manchester City Go Top

Due to the heavy margin of Arsenal’s defeat, Manchester City reclaimed the top spot on goal difference without even kicking a ball on Saturday. City, who are the only other team to win their opening four matches, can now move three points clear in the Premier League standings if they defeat Sunderland on Sunday.
