Tom Holland, the lead actor in the upcoming releases “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” recently opened up about the varying degrees of enthusiasm he has felt while promoting his filmography. During a Wednesday appearance on the “Dish” podcast, Holland told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett that his current press tour has been a refreshing experience, describing it as a “victory lap” for his two latest major projects.
The actor noted that when he is genuinely proud of a film, the promotional process becomes effortless. “I’m absolutely loving it. When you’re doing press for movies that you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” Holland explained. He added that in these instances, he does not feel like he is being dishonest when answering questions about why audiences should see the films, as he truly believes in their quality.
However, Holland admitted that his career has included less favorable moments where he struggled to maintain that same level of conviction. Reflecting on past projects, he shared that he has occasionally faced situations where he had to field questions about movies he personally disliked. “I’ve had experiences before when people say, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s sh*t,’” he confessed.
This year marks a significant professional milestone for the actor, with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” scheduled for its United States release this Friday. Beyond his own performance, Holland credited his “The Odyssey” co-star, Anne Hathaway, for helping him navigate the demands of the media. He described the last three days of doing press alongside her as an “awesome learning experience,” highlighting her professionalism as a mentor during the promotional circuit.
The conversation also touched upon Holland’s personal life, which has seen notable developments this year. Following months of speculation that began in March regarding a secret marriage, Holland confirmed his marital status during the podcast by referring to Zendaya as “my wife.” The couple, who first connected on the set of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017, maintained a private relationship for years before publicly confirming their romance in 2021. The report also notes that this hasn’t always been the case, Holland explained.
