The opening Twenty20 International of the three-match series between India and Afghanistan is set to proceed as planned on September 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The fixture had faced potential postponement due to security challenges in the national capital linked to the upcoming BRICS Summit, which prompted the Delhi Police to initially request a rescheduling.
Following high-level discussions with the Delhi Traffic Police, the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced on Thursday evening that the match will remain on its original date. In a social media statement, the DDCA confirmed they have received assurances regarding the necessary support and logistical arrangements required to host the event safely.
Despite this official confirmation, some reports suggest there remains internal discussion regarding a potential one-day delay to align the match with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. While the DDCA maintains that the schedule is fixed, stakeholders involved in the event’s coordination have indicated that a final decision on the timing has not been entirely ruled out. The remaining two matches of the series are scheduled to be played on September 15 and 17.
