AI music startup Suno announced on Wednesday the launch of a new suite of models developed in partnership with major record labels Warner Music Group and BMG. This collaboration allows users to generate original music that is inspired by the licensed catalogs of participating artists. The initiative comes as the industry faces heightened scrutiny regarding AI music generators, with concerns from artists over the uncompensated use of their creative work and ongoing efforts by streaming services like Spotify and Deezer to increase transparency for AI-generated content.
Suno is transitioning its platform entirely to the v6 generation, replacing previous versions. As part of this update, the company is introducing the v6-mini model, which will be available to all users for free. Suno anticipates that this version will deliver “better, faster results than any free model on any music creation platform.” The startup, co-founded in 2022 by CEO Mikey Shulman, recently secured over $400 million in a funding round that pushed its valuation to $5.4 billion. It currently offers subscription tiers in the U.S. priced at $8 and $24 per month.
