Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is unlikely to be granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL). While franchises, including the Adelaide Strikers and a Melbourne-based team, have shown interest in the 23-year-old for the season running from December 12 to January 26, the board remains cautious about his availability.
A BCB official noted that while they are aware of the interest from BBL teams through various platforms, no formal request for an NOC has been submitted by the player. The official stated that even if a request were filed, the chances of approval are slim due to Bangladesh’s heavy international commitments. The board is prioritizing the management of Rana’s fitness, particularly as he recently recovered from a Grade-2 side strain that sidelined him during the two-match Test series against Australia.
Regarding his recovery, the official emphasized that because the pacer only returned to bowling earlier this week, his workload remains a top priority. Consequently, Rana is set to miss the Asian Games in September. The board expects him to return to competitive action during the series against Afghanistan, which is scheduled to take place in the UAE this October.
The international calendar for Bangladesh remains packed, further complicating the prospect of league participation. Following the Afghanistan series, the team is slated to host the West Indies for two Tests in October and November as part of the ICC World Test Championship. This will be followed by a full tour of South Africa in November and December, featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. Additionally, the BCB is managing the potential rescheduling of a six-match white-ball series against India—originally planned for September—to January, while also preparing to host England for a two-match Test series early next year. The report also notes that we are also seeing in different platforms that some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana but we have not received any official letter for NOC from him.
