Primark to Launch Home Delivery Service Amid Rising Competition from Fast-Fashion Rivals

Update: 10 September 2026, 6:11:52 PM

Primark has confirmed plans to introduce a home delivery service in Britain, marking a significant shift in strategy four years after the retailer first entered the e-commerce market. While the company has not provided a specific launch date, it has secured a warehouse in Sheffield to facilitate direct-to-home shipping.

The move follows years of resistance to online retail, even throughout the pandemic. Analysts suggest this pivot is a defensive measure against the rapid growth of ultra-fast-fashion competitors such as Shein and Boohoo, as well as digital platforms like TikTok Shop and Vinted. Retail analyst Julie Palmer noted that the brand has been “playing catch up for years,” describing the move as “as much about defence as growth.” She added that the primary challenge will be maintaining profitability while adhering to the low price points expected by customers, alongside the need for a “slick and effective returns policy” to match the convenience offered by rivals.

Associated British Foods (ABF), the parent company of Primark, stated there is an “opportunity for profitable growth” through this new channel. The retailer previously entered the digital space in 2022 with a click-and-collect service, which still required customers to visit physical stores to retrieve their orders. ABF intends to “continue to grow click and collect and… will in the future offer home delivery in Great Britain.”

The announcement comes as the chain faces a challenging retail environment. ABF forecasts that Primark’s UK sales will rise by approximately 1% in the fourth quarter, though like-for-like sales—a key industry metric that excludes store openings and closures—are expected to remain “broadly flat” in the UK and decline by 3% globally. The company noted that autumn and winter clothing sales were delayed by unseasonably hot summer weather, though trading improved as temperatures dropped toward the end of the quarter.

In response to mounting competitive pressure, Primark announced in July that it was reducing prices on hundreds of items. As part of its broader corporate strategy, ABF is also planning to spin off the fashion chain from its food business next year. The report also notes that but it has bought a warehouse in Sheffield from to enable it to ship products to homes, the retailer did not say when it expects to launch the service. The report also notes that when it launched a click-and-collect service which meant shoppers still had to travel to pick up their purchases, primark did not sell goods online until 2022.
