U.S. Mint Releases Commemorative $1 Coin Featuring President Donald Trump

Update: 4 September 2026, 3:28:46 AM

The U.S. Mint has launched a new $1 coin intended to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The gold-finish currency features the face of President Donald Trump on one side, a design that the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts—comprised of members appointed by the president—approved earlier this year. Regarding the decision to feature his likeness on the coin, the president previously remarked that the concept was “very unusual” but added that he felt “honored by it.”

While the coins serve as legal tender, their release has faced scrutiny due to federal regulations that generally prohibit the depiction of living presidents on U.S. currency. However, the Treasury Secretary maintains the authority to approve the issuance of special commemorative coins under specific circumstances. This release is part of a broader trend during the president’s second term, which has seen various efforts to place his name on prominent Washington, D.C. institutions, such as the U.S. Institute of Peace and the Kennedy Center, often resulting in legal challenges.

The U.S. Mint stated that the coins were produced to “honor 250 years of great American heritage.” The obverse side displays the president’s profile with the word “LIBERTY” arched above and the dates “1776 ~ 2026” below. The reverse side features the Great Seal of the United States, depicting a bald eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, with a banner in its beak inscribed with the Latin phrase “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” meaning “out of many, one.”

Collectors can purchase a roll of 25 coins for $61, while a bag of 100 is priced at $154.50. The Mint noted that it has randomly distributed special-issue coins marked “July 4th” within these orders, signifying they were struck on the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Due to high demand, the Mint has limited households to two orders. By late Wednesday, the agency’s website indicated that while orders were being accepted, the items were temporarily out of stock as additional inventory is produced. The report also notes that whose face gazes from one side of the gold finish — went on sale Wednesday, according to the U.S, the $1 coin designed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday — and seemingly President Donald Trump.
