More than 20 years after the original romantic comedy became a global hit, a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is officially in development. Kate Hudson, who starred in the 2003 film, is set to produce the new project alongside Stacey Sher, known for her work on Pulp Fiction and Matilda.
While the project is in the “very early days,” reports suggest that both 47-year-old Hudson and 56-year-old Matthew McConaughey could reprise their iconic roles. Representatives for both actors have been contacted for comment regarding their potential involvement.
The original film centered on Andie, a magazine journalist researching modern dating, who bets she can drive away a man named Benjamin within 10 days. Simultaneously, Benjamin wagers that he can make any woman fall in love with him, setting the stage for their complicated dynamic. The movie was a significant success, grossing nearly $180 million at the global box office and cementing the status of the yellow silk Carolina Herrera dress worn by Hudson as a memorable piece of cinema fashion.
Reflecting on their chemistry, McConaughey previously told People magazine in 2024 that he and Hudson felt an immediate connection during their first meeting. “Immediately, we were comfortable with each other, and we jacked with each other, and we busted each other’s chops, and we laughed a lot,” he recalled. He noted that their “rock and roll exchange” helped make the project work, adding that they “laughed a lot” throughout the production.
The two actors have collaborated previously, including in the 2008 film Fool’s Gold. McConaughey’s extensive filmography includes the Oscar-winning Dallas Buyer’s Club, The Wedding Planner, and Magic Mike. Hudson, meanwhile, continues to receive critical acclaim, most recently earning her second Oscar nomination for the 2025 film Song Sung Blue, following her initial nomination for Almost Famous in 2001.
This planned sequel follows a broader Hollywood trend of revisiting nostalgic hits, similar to the recent development of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which arrives two decades after the original and features the return of the character Andy, played by Anne Hathaway.
