Ed Sheeran’s scheduled concerts in Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday have been called off due to severe weather alerts across the region. The singer was set to perform two headline shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, situated near Boston, as part of his ongoing US tour.
Organizers confirmed the cancellation via an official venue statement, noting that local officials were consulted before making the choice. The announcement emphasized that public and staff safety remained the primary concern amid hazardous conditions. Staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority, it added: “The decision was made with the safety of fans.
Met officials have issued high wind warnings across the area lasting until early Sunday morning, with local authorities advising motorists to restrict travel. Ticketholders who booked via Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, while others can claim theirs at the original point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.
The cancellation follows weeks of intense scrutiny surrounding the tour after support act Macklemore was dropped from the lineup following on-stage remarks about Gaza. Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots, labeled the rapper’s comments hate speech and opposed his appearance. As well as showing images of Gaza, the decision came after the rapper made on-stage comments at earlier concerts including calling for “free Palestine” and referring to “genocide” in Gaza.
Sheeran clarified that the promoter made the removal decision rather than himself, though promoters indicated venue management would have blocked the events otherwise. The fallout prompted other backing artists to withdraw in protest, sparking widespread debate regarding artistic freedom and politics.
Addressing audiences last weekend, Sheeran expressed regret over the situation, acknowledging that he had faced difficult choices and made mistakes.
