A woman who had previously accused Jay-Z of sexual assault when she was a minor has now formally retracted her claims, admitting they were completely false. The individual, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, stated that she has never met or spoken to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. In a new declaration, she clarified that Carter never engaged in any inappropriate behavior toward her, directly refuting the 2024 lawsuit she had filed. The original litigation, brought against both Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs, alleged that the assault occurred following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The woman eventually dropped the lawsuit in February 2025, leading Carter to initiate his own legal action against her and her former legal representatives. The rapper, who is married to singer Beyoncé, said: “The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed, when the accuser dropped her case in February 2025.
In her recent sworn statement, the accuser expressed regret for her previous claims, noting the “immense pain” and damage they caused Carter. She emphasized that she has not received any financial compensation or incentives from the rapper or his associates for this retraction. Furthermore, she stated that she never faced any threats or intimidation from Carter’s team to influence her decision. According to she, She had not received any money from the rap superstar or anyone acting on his behalf, and had not been paid to make her latest declaration.
The woman detailed the origins of the false allegations, explaining that in late 2024, she saw a social media advertisement seeking individuals with claims against Combs. She stated that the ad triggered traumatic memories, which she later identified as the catalyst for the unfounded lawsuit. She further alleged that the law firm representing her filed the complaint without conducting an independent investigation, due diligence, or obtaining corroboration.
Carter, who has been represented throughout this process, had previously characterized the allegations as “frivolous, fictitious and appalling.” Following her retraction, the woman has been removed as a party from the ongoing lawsuit initiated by Carter. The rapper continues to pursue legal action against the woman’s former lead attorney, Tony Buzbee. Buzbee has maintained that he did not see the new declaration and that his team had acted upon the consistent story provided by the accuser for months. He previously argued that Carter’s investigators had harassed the woman during the proceedings. Conversely, the accuser explicitly stated she never received threats from the rapper or his representatives. She gave the exact same story to each.
Separately, Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to face various legal challenges. In July 2025, a criminal court convicted Combs of prostitution-related charges involving two former partners. He is currently serving a four-year prison sentence. Buzbee, who represents several other individuals with claims against Combs, has previously faced criticism from Combs’ legal team, which alleged the attorney was prioritizing media attention over legal merit.
